Talking on TEDx Frome was a big highlight of 2020!  Let me explain in this blog for you, as you already know this year has been incredibly challenging as we’ve had to navigate some very strange times, working from home full-time for some, this is new, while parenting and full-time homework for many others and various versions of in-between.

Ruthy Doolittle on TEDx Frome

My business was lucky enough to make it through, despite losing two-thirds of the year bookings I managed to keep on going, which I personally feel very relieved about aa I know it isn’t the case for many others.

However, the spring and summer months were quiet, blissfully warm ideal for outdoor events, had they actually gone ahead.  Many business owners were forced to change their approach and mine was no different.  I wrote the first in a series of books, filmed online courses, and caught up on some professional development too.

I always gained a lot from networking in person and missed contact with other business people, so opted to move to online networking.  In essence, it is the same as in-person only not in person.  I wasn’t surprised when I arrived at one meeting to hear a lady share she was looking for speakers at her local TEDx Frome.  I leaped out of my seat and put my name forward.

If you don’t know who TED is, they are a BIG speaker platform with a common goal.

“TEDx is a grassroots initiative, created in the spirit of TED’s overall mission to research and discover “ideas worth spreading.” TEDx brings the spirit of TED to local communities around the globe through TEDx events. These events are organized by passionate individuals who seek to uncover new ideas and to share the latest research in their local areas that spark conversations in their communities.”

I have been a business owner since 2006, worked since 1988, and always felt I had a big message to share.  Getting a speaking slot with them to share, my message was and still is a BIG DEAL to me!

It a nerve-wracking to go through this process, mainly because it was such a big deal to me to be talking on TEDXFrome.  Thankfully being a qualified therapist and accredited EAM® Mentor, I have many tools to help me with all the stuff that came up before doing the talk, things like:

  • What would I say?
  • Would I say too much?
  • What if I swore or burped out loud?
  • How about the tech?
  • How much of a deal it was to me
  • What about remembering my words?
  • Would my voice shake?

I worked through these limiting fears, beliefs, emotions, and thoughts in plenty of time using eam and a couple of other techniques I’ve got up my sleeve.

I tuned into my own instincts and intuition and took some time outside in nature and then I was then able to prepare the talk, my tech, my space, and my energy in plenty of time for the live event.

There were some last-minute issues ahead of the call, they did make me sweat a little, however, a bit of nervous energy ahead of an event, to me is completely natural and I felt completely exhilarated afterward.  So here is my talk, for you titled:

“Instincts and Intuition, what we can learn from our connection with animals”

Thanks for watching, if you’d like to connect with me, then do get in touch via social or here.

From the heart,
