Finding the right space!

Gorgeous spot in the woods, not suitable for vision questingI thought about a space where I could go for my Vision Quest and a woodland came to me in my mind and later on in my dreams.  I looked up ancient woodland nearby to my home and was so delighted to have found a woods that was part of a nature reserve, Camping wasn’t excluded and every time I visited the woods the energy felt wonderful.

I explored the woods looking for a place where I would Vision Quest and stay for 48 hours,  for two sunrises.  I wanted to be able to call on the support and stability of the king of winter the Holly tree and the king of summer, the mighty oak.  So when I found both intertwined with one another and a private den underneath the trees I knew I’d found the perfect spot for me.

Because of the covering of the canopy, I missed out on looking at the clouds and stars at night time. If you can find a spot with a sky view too to appreciate all of the stars’ amazing beauty then that will be incredible. You probably need to be somewhere more remote when you won’t be disturbed by dog walkers and ramblers.

I felt the protection of the trees and being off the path really helped me stay unseen while I planned to sit with me, myself, and I.

Preparing to fast.Ruthy Doolittle Vision Quest

To Vision Quest, it included fasting for the time I was away.  I fasted for 16 hours a day for the week before going away.   The preparation really helped me to manage my hunger when I was away, actually drinking and not eating or talking gave my mouth and my jaw a great rest and my body a chance to catch up digesting things.

Supplies for the vision quest.

  • I took with me a yoga mat and a thick, long body length cushion to lay on.

What happened on The Vision Quest Itself?

I settled into my camp before sunrise and made my little nest to sit on.  I love to watch nature so found this a wonderful way to pass the day.My tree for Vision Questing, Ruthy Doolittle

I noticed how quiet my tree was.  There really weren’t that many birds in it, though there were plenty in the woodland. I sat quietly and asked my own guides and Angels to guide me and also set the intention for the Ents, the tree spirits to come to me with any messages.

Midway through the morning I was visited by a Wren which was also lovely sign from the Animal Kingdom.

The metaphysical meaning of Shrew or Shrew Totem Animal

I noticed a shrew, just one at first. Busying itself with feeding and mainly feeding.  I later observed two little shrews busying themselves with looking for food, an almost full-time job for these tiny rodents, as their metabolism is sooo fast, the busy themselves all day looking for supplies.  Another nice reminder from the animal kingdom.

The metaphysical meaning of shrew ranges, they have many different roles in Native American cultures, some are brave and others steal fire, some are less popular as other tribes dislike them for they are said to bring bad luck.

To me, they were a reminder of my own business, a form of hunger ever searching.  If only I would sit still and observe more!
